In 1821 in Dalmatia, the Luxardo distillery was founded by Girolamo Luxardo to pursue his wife's passion for perfecting her favourite Rosolio Maraschino liqueur. Girolamo was awarded a privilege from the Emperor of Austria for the liqueur's superior quality.
Here we have their Maraschino Originale, the distillery's flagship product, which has been an essential cocktail ingredient ever since. Marasca cherries are harvested at the start of summer and then aged for up to three years in larch-wood vats alongside leaves and branches from the cherry trees. After a meticulous distillation process syrup is added to turn the liquid to a liqueur.
This delicious drink invites aromas of nuts and cherries which continue to the palate alongside dark chocolate and marmalade. The green Luxardo bottle is an iconic symbol of the brand and harks back to the original bottles of the 19th century.
Enjoy neat after dinner or in hundreds of different cocktail recipes. Our favourite is a Hemingway Daiquiri!
