Owing it's origins to monks and alchemists from the south of France, who distributed it as a medicine, gin quickly found it's way across the European continent thanks to stringent import taxes on French brandy in the 17th century.

Today, gin is an extremely versatile spirit; while the base ingredient must always contain juniper berries, the subsequent flavours and herbs (referred to as 'Botanicals') can be anything! This level of freedom in the brewing process has led to the creation of some of the world's most interesting and varied spirits - all under the guise of 'Gin'.
