Bitters & Vermouths

Bitters and Vermouths are typically used as additions to cocktails or occasionally enjoyed on their own.

Bitters are most commonly used in cocktails to add a dash of spice to the overall flavour combination. Think of them as you think of adding spice to food, they add depths of complexity and flavour to the finished product! We stock a range of high-quality bitters in different flavours. Bitters are infused with a variety of spices and ingredients, including dried roots (gentian), barks (angostura, cassia), seeds or pods (cardamom), flower buds and stigmas (saffron), fruits (dried lemon peel), and so on.

Vermouth is a type of fortified wine that is flavoured, aromatised and ABV boosted with some neutral alcohol, such as a clear grape brandy. It is also flavoured with various herbs, botanicals, and spices to give a unique and very particular flavour. Dry (white) vermouth and sweet (red) vermouth are the most common. If you enjoy a martini or two, want to explore fancy or classic cocktails, or love sipping an aperitif before dinner, then vermouth is essential.

Vermouth is popular as a mixer in many well-known cocktails that are considered some of the most classic mixes out there. Most notable is the use of dry vermouth in a gin martini, and also sweet vermouth in a whiskey Manhattan.
