The Crabbie's story begins in Edinburgh in 1801 with the birth of John Crabbie, who grew up in a thriving merchant family and used the nearby port of Leith to gain access to imported ingredients from all over the world. He travelled to Asia later in his life to source the best quality ginger and fell in love with the elephants he saw there, which explains the bottle's artwork.
Today the brand works with charities in Asia to help fund elephant protection schemes. The ginger is steeped for 6 weeks in four secret ingredients to eventually produce a delicious, gluten-free ginger beer. This drink is super versatile - many enjoy it alone, chilled and straight from the bottle - but it also makes a brilliant cocktail ingredient especially in a Dark and Stormy.
